In the US, cosmetic products are a buyer-beware process. This program allows a US shopper to make a more informed decision by quickly pinpointing unsafe ingredients while shopping in the store or at home. The user either uploads an image or pastes a list of ingredients into the program and the program searches through a dictionary of unsafe ingredients and provides a summary of why the ingredient(s) is unsafe and should be used with caution. This program defines unsafe ingredients as those that interrupt natural biological processes or any chemical substance that has been banned by the European Union (EU) in Annex II of the Cosmetics Directive. The EU has more stringent regulations based on peer-reviewed research (Reach approach) and is significantly less influenced by manufacturers and lobbyists.
