I’ve long been interested in the life of Emily Dickinson and her poetry, and I wondered if I could use what we learned in Code in Place to understand her work better. Dickinson’s poetry covered a range of themes – death, fame, immortality, faith, nature. I wanted to see if there was any commonality to the language she used within these themes, so I wrote a program to combine the text of thematically similar poems and another to count the occurrence of words in them.
